What do you want to be when you grow up?
Anxiety Alert! I have no idea what I want to be when I grow up! Or I have so many interests I can't be both a vet and a chef? Sound familiar?
We are conditioned from a very young age to find our passion or purpose or calling. We get asked what we would like to be when we grow up as early as the age of 5 - if not sooner!
Why has no one said that it is okay to have multiple passions? Why do we not learn that it is okay to take multiple career paths? Maybe it all just feeds off of each other? Maybe everything that you learn actually just builds you to the next passion?
"It's rarely a waste of time to pursue something you are drawn to, even if you end up quitting. You might apply that knowledge in a different field entirely."
I recently watched a TED talk from Emilie Wapnick regarding the theory of being a Multipotentialite - which is defined as a person with many interests and creative pursuits. It spoke to me like a freight train hitting me directly in the face! All of the traits and characteristic were me! They were the reason I created this blog in the first place!
Embodiment by Kait was created because I was not being fully and authentically me in my past ventures in blogging. I am more than a beauty professional, a leader, a fit foodie, an animal lover, and a motivator! I am just me! I have interests and phases and passions that do change! I was told over and over again to create my "niche." While I can successfully do that - I am so much more than one subject or business! I am also someone who tends to question, "normal".
Think for a moment where that first limiting belief came from? That you are "abnormal" for having passion or many interests.
What has happened starts from childhood. You have ingested what society has shown you, and decided that it is the way things are! You grow up, and have been told that you have to choose. You have one true purpose in this world. You must pick.
No wonder most people walk around miserable! Longing for more! Unfulfilled.
Being passionate in multiple different fields does not make you weird, or a failure! You have not missed your calling! You do not have some lack of purpose! You actually likely have multiple!
So for all of you who grew up as "quitters", it is time to reevaluate! More likely than not, you actually just get bored out of your mind! You dive full in with passion learn everything you can about a certain subject or field - and then you lose your spark! Yet, you learned so much along the way to bring to your next great adventure!
Next time you feel the urge to make a change or you are drawn to another interest - let's try something different. Let's try it out with passion, and go all in! See where it takes you. Learn all that you can until it no longer feels right in your soul. Happiness is the most important thing in this life! That is always your only purpose and calling. That is always why you were put on this beautiful planet!
Embody every single piece, part and passion in you! Trust your intuition. Feel when you are losing your passion and adjust! You become what you believe, believe in you!
