What's Trending?! Live Audio, Picture Polls and More!
Four new Facebook updates that you want to get on top of!
It is no secret that Facebook rolls out new features all the time! Spring of 2018 is no different, and there are some great new features for you to take advantage of to reach a larger audience.
It is SO important to stay on top of the new trends and features on Facebook because guess what the algorithm likes? The new stuff! Facebook wants their new features to succeed, so of course they will push them to the top of newsfeeds! Here are a few to look out for this Spring!
1. Polls with Pictures - the poll option is a great way to get feedback from your audience, and it also is a great way to gage what their interests are. If you feel like you are not getting any interaction on your posts, make sure you are asking your audience what they want to hear about! The poll feature now allows you to not only add text, but add pictures as an option. Visuals draw attention and polls draw in engagement! It is a win win all around! You are also able to pick how long you would like to keep the poll running for.
2. Ask Questions Feature - there is a new "Did You Know" section of Facebook where you are asked a series of random questions which can be filled out for people to get to know you better. There are fun questions such as "If I could visit another planet, it would be..." to more personal questions "I met my significant other at..."
3. Lists - just like answering questions about yourself - lists give you fun engaging questions to answer about yourself in a bulleted or numbered format with a cute colorful background!
4. Live Audio - last and certainly not least is the live audio feature on Facebook! Much like live video, followers can interact and engage with you while on live. The only difference is you don't have to actually put the time effort and energy into hair and makeup! So for the days you want to stay in your PJ's Facebook audio is a total win! It is just like having a podcast going. Followers are able to listen as they scroll their newsfeeds. PRO TIP - you are able to download your audio and upload it into a podcast if you would like! Such a great way to repurpose content!
Have you noticed any of these new features yet? Are you going to try them out? Are you more comfortable on audio than video?

I am sure you spent quite a bit of time creating a theme, maybe a mood board or possibly even spent a pretty penny hiring out for your website to have a branded look. This branding should branch out over to your social media platforms. Think similar colors, textures, fonts, feel. The goal is to have such a branded look that people automatically know it is you the second that you pop up on their news feed!
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU TOOK A PEEK AT YOUR BRANDING ACROSS YOUR PLATFORMS?
I know for me I have had to tweak things, take a step back and rearrange images and verbage to keep a branded look many times. You can choose to delete or archive these seasons in your online appearance or you can leave them up to show the growth you have had over the past year or two. Either option is okay, it is what feels right to you.
QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER.
Sometimes it can be easy to get off track with your mission, your purpose and your branding. Take the time to journal out some of these questions today and think about what you can do to improve your branding this Spring. Spring cleaning can carry over to our digital presence also!

It is time to change your focus.
The number of followers no longer matters!
Now before you go running for the hills and calling me a crazy person, hear me out!
In years prior, the biggest goals in your social media strategy were to get as many followers as possible to your Instagram, Facebook, or business page. So why is this no longer the most important thing? Because having 10,000 followers is great, but if no one actually sees your post, likes your photo, comments on your questions - your photo dies VERY quickly in the algorithm. No engagement, means less people see your efforts, which in turn means less sales and revenue in your business. With feeds getting overwhelming at this point on social media, it is time to reframe your strategy.
The 2018 way of attracting followers, is VALUE!
It is not about how many followers you have it is about the amount of ENGAGED followers you have!
We are drowning in oceans of information and notifications in the online space at this point! You absolutely have to provide more value than ever before! This isn't a question of if you have to - it is what will give you best chance at being seen, and bump your posts into feeds! This is all a game of attention, what posts will grab the most attention?
It is better to have 500 ENGAGED FOLLOWERS than to have 10,000 who do not care.
Start to think about what you can do to provide value to others more than you are now. Is it tutorials, tips, tricks, life hacks, giveaways? What is it that will make people want to follow you? What questions can you ask in your posts to increase engagement? Look back and see what has done well already in your feed, do more of THAT!
As always, social media is a FREE tool for you to use for your business growth - use it to your advantage!
Are you using hastags to their full advantage?
Instagram has come out with another new update! How exciting! Staying on top of the trends can be a full time gig! I totally get it!
Hashtags are HUGE for gaining exposure for your brand on Instagram, it is not as relevant on Facebook. (For more tips check out 5 Social Media Mistakes You May Still Be Making). Are you using them to your advantage?!
Hashtags can provide your business with great exposure! I see so many mistakes in the land of hashtags! I use to make many of them myself! There is an art and a science around using hashtags to speak to your ideal client.
The latest update for hashtags allows you to now follow them!
Why is this feature good for your business?
Because it can now put you directly into your ideal clients feed even easier! No more clicking around! Now, as they scroll your ideal market will see your post in their feed! Um, HECK YES!
This update if one I am excited for and see as a game changer for Instagram!
If you are not hashtag-ing it is time to jump on board the train! Make sure you are putting them in the comments below your photo. No one wants to read them all in the description unless they are fun or cute!
Also, make sure you are using relevant tags that speak to your ideal client! This is so important!
Lastly, patience! This is not going to explode your business overnight! I think there is a huge misconception when people start up on a social media marketing plan. Growing slow and gaining exposure is the best thing that you can do for your business!
Over the past five years people now take 22% longer to convert from a sales cycle! Stay consistent! The best thing you can do for your brand and business is to SHOW up!
People are watching, even if they aren't liking and commenting. Make sure they remember you! Every time you read the story, the turtle always wins. #betheturtle
