Are you using hastags to their full advantage?
Instagram has come out with another new update! How exciting! Staying on top of the trends can be a full time gig! I totally get it!
Hashtags are HUGE for gaining exposure for your brand on Instagram, it is not as relevant on Facebook. (For more tips check out 5 Social Media Mistakes You May Still Be Making). Are you using them to your advantage?!
Hashtags can provide your business with great exposure! I see so many mistakes in the land of hashtags! I use to make many of them myself! There is an art and a science around using hashtags to speak to your ideal client.
The latest update for hashtags allows you to now follow them!
Why is this feature good for your business?
Because it can now put you directly into your ideal clients feed even easier! No more clicking around! Now, as they scroll your ideal market will see your post in their feed! Um, HECK YES!
This update if one I am excited for and see as a game changer for Instagram!
If you are not hashtag-ing it is time to jump on board the train! Make sure you are putting them in the comments below your photo. No one wants to read them all in the description unless they are fun or cute!
Also, make sure you are using relevant tags that speak to your ideal client! This is so important!
Lastly, patience! This is not going to explode your business overnight! I think there is a huge misconception when people start up on a social media marketing plan. Growing slow and gaining exposure is the best thing that you can do for your business!
Over the past five years people now take 22% longer to convert from a sales cycle! Stay consistent! The best thing you can do for your brand and business is to SHOW up!
People are watching, even if they aren't liking and commenting. Make sure they remember you! Every time you read the story, the turtle always wins. #betheturtle
Working with salon and spa professionals is my specialty! I know the industry like the back of my hand! I also know how quickly social media can change! In an ever changing digital world, it can be hard keeping up with all the new updates, apps and rules!
Let's keep things simple though, shall we?
Without getting into the spiral of the latest app you need to download. Let's use what you already have in the palm of your hand daily! Yes your phone! There is down time inbetween clients that you can be using to help create an online presence! Let's create a great one!
Biggest Mistake #1 - You have forgotten the delete button exists on Instagram!
I see many accounts daily that have posts like "Snow Day" or I have an opening on March 15th and it is now June. Clean up your feed to make it appealing to the eye! If something does not feel right or it is far past the date. Just delete or archive the post. Easy peasy!
Mistake #2 - You are ignoring your followers.
If someone takes the time to comment on your photo or post, it is important to comment back to them! Make them feel special! Plus, it also bumps your post back into your followers news feeds! It is a win win! Make sure someone is in charge of handling comments back!
Mistake #3 - You are not providing a call to action.
This is something extra important on Facebook because you can simply include your website link on your post. Think about what you would like a customer or potential client to do. What is the purpose of this post? People need to be told where to go, and what to do.
Mistake #4 - Lighting!
Dark, blurry, or unflattering photos are not cute! Lighting is very important on your photos! Lighter and brighter always draws more attention. Make sure you are using natural lighting whenever possible.
Mistake #5 - You are using hashtags on Facebook.
Hashtags are a powerful tool, on Instagram. However, they do not provide the same page traffic on Facebook. And to be honest, people find them annoying if there are a paragraph of them. Save your hashtags for Instagram!
There you have it!
Time to clean up the mistakes as we head into 2018! Want to learn more about how to show up online? Want to make sure you aren't making costly mistakes? Ready to get noticed and speak to your ideal client?
